The Psychiatry
Clinic adheres to strict confidentiality in accord with federal and state laws.
In general, information about your psychiatric care will only be released with
your written consent. If you are a client of both the Counseling Center
and the Psychiatry Clinic, these agencies may share information to facilitate
your care. When communication with the Counseling Center
occurs, the receiving party will maintain the confidentiality of your
information.
There are rare exceptions to confidentiality.
For example, if a client should express or report a specific and serious intent
to inflict harm to him/herself or to someone else, your Psychiatrist may break
confidentiality, but only to the extent necessary to ensure your safety and/or
the safety of others. We also have a duty to report cases of abuse where a minor,
an elderly person, or a disabled individual is the victim of the abuse.
